“Lee Jung-hoo is the leader in the competition to recruit.”

San Diego traded outfielders Soto and Grisham, was there any confidence in them?

The San Diego Padres are leading the race to recruit Kiwoom Heroes Lee Jeong-hoo (25).

The American media New York Post reported on the 8th (hereinafter Korean time), “San Diego appears to have become a leader in the competition to recruit Lee Jung-hoo.”

Lee Jeong-hoo is a leading Korean hitter who recorded a batting average of .344 (1,181 hits in 3,476 at-bats), 65 home runs, 515 RBIs, and an OPS of .898 in 884 games in the KBO League. He peaked last season, hitting . He swept five batting awards (batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, RBI, most hits) and the league MVP, becoming Korea's best hitter in name and reality.

Lee Jeong-hoo, who officially announced his entry into the major leagues ahead of this year's season, ended the season early after undergoing surgery for an ankle injury. However, he achieved decent results in 86 games with a batting average of .300, 105 hits in 330 at-bats, 6 home runs, 45 RBIs, and an OPS of .861, and the evaluations of major league clubs did not change much. Local American media outlets predicted that Lee Jung-hoo would sign a contract worth more than $50 million (about 66 billion won), focusing on his excellent contact ability and center field defense.

The popularity of major league teams surrounding Lee Jung-hoo is beyond imagination. San Francisco general manager Pete Putilla personally visited Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul to watch Lee Jeong-hoo's final at-bat, and the Dodgers, Yankees, Toronto, and Mets also showed interest in Lee Jeong-hoo. New York Post reporter John Heyman said, “20 major league clubs showed interest in Lee Jung-hoo.”

San Diego is one of the teams that showed interest in Lee Jeong-hoo. Korean player Kim Ha-seong, who was already signed with a four-year guaranteed contract worth $28 million (approximately 37 billion won), was a huge success. Ha-seong Kim had the best season this year, recording a batting average of .206 (140 hits in 538 at-bats), 17 home runs, 60 RBIs, 84 runs, 38 steals, and an OPS of .749 in 152 games, and even won the National League Gold Glove Award in the utility category.
