‘Going to the Middle East after being pushed by Maguire?’

Raphael Varane, who was a key defender for Real Madrid, is now in a situation where he has to consider a move to the Middle East after being pushed out by Harry Maguire.

During his time at Real Madrid, Varane was one of the most highly regarded center backs in the world. Varane, who won three La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League titles with Real, also played a big part in the French national team and contributed to France winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Ahead of the 2021/22 season, Varane decided to transfer to Manchester United after completing his stay with Real. At the time, Manchester United needed a starting center back to push out underperforming center backs such as Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Eric Bailly, so Manchester United fans also showed great satisfaction with the desired signing. Even though he was limited to 22 league games due to injury problems in his first season, Manchester United fans poured out favorable reviews of Varane.

However, Varan's injury problems continued afterwards. In the 2022/23 season, Varane was limited to starting 22 league games due to injury, and this season he left early in the season and rarely played in games. As injuries continued, manager Eric Tun Haag began to exclude Varane from the team's plans little by little.

In the Manchester derby against Manchester City in the 10th round, manager Eric Turnhaag surprised fans by starting Maguire and 35-year-old Jonny Evans even though Varane had recovered from an injury at the time. Afterwards, Turnhag stated, "We used Maguire and Evans instead of Varan for tactical reasons," but it could not be denied that Varane's position at Manchester United was greatly reduced.

In the end, with Varane likely to leave Manchester United, Saudi Arabia, which is active in recruiting world-class players, emerged as his next destination.

British media outlet The Sun reported on the 23rd (Korean time) that “Varane could leave Manchester United for Saudi Arabia.”

The Sun said: "Varaine is set to leave Manchester United, but not until next summer. He has fallen out of Manchester United's priorities and there was talk of him being sold in January, but he will not be available before the end of the season as Turn Haag wants to finish in the top four. "It seems he will not leave. There are claims that Varane could return to Real Madrid, but according to the news, Varane is more interested in a move to Saudi Arabia or Italy," he said about Varan's transfer.

“Some sources have said that Varane’s days at Manchester United are numbered and the clock on his future is ticking,” he added, adding that a move was possible.
