Atlanta, Baltimore, and Dodgers with over 100 wins were all eliminated -

major league postseason has now been condensed from 12 teams to 4 teams. The final road to the World Series is the Championship Series (LCS).

A characteristic of this postseason's Wild Card Series (WC) and Division Series (LDS) is surprises. In particular, the three teams with the highest winning percentage that won 100 games and played directly in the LDS without going through the WC were all eliminated. The Atlanta Braves with 104 wins and 58 losses, the Baltimore Orioles with 101 wins and 61 losses in the regular season, and the Los Angeles Dodgers with 100 wins and 62 losses, which had raised their stock by winning more than 100 games for three consecutive years, were cruelly defeated.

Only Atlanta managed to get one win, while Baltimore and the Dodgers were swept by losing all three games.

Some experts are also pointing out that the current format is disadvantageous for top teams with high win rates. This year, only the defending Wall Series champion Houston Astros survived. With Atlanta's elimination, Houston's chances of winning the WS increased.

This is the result of ‘rest becoming poison,’ but this amounts to underestimating the teams that created a sensation. This is because the regular season and postseason aspects of MLB are completely different.

In fact, American sports have a playoff system. In European soccer, which dominates the world, regular season results are the final result. In the United States, all sports have playoffs based on regular season performance. The main reason for adopting this was commercial reasons. However, it is another system that gives a ‘second chance’. The purpose is to give a chance to teams that narrowly missed out on winning the district championship in the regular season. This is why wild card teams that are poor in their regular season performance often win the championship.

This is because everything cannot be evaluated based on regular season performance alone. The 2020-2021 English Premier League championship went to Manchester City. Liverpool was one point short and handed the championship to Manchester City. Liverpool fans would have wanted a final winner through a playoff like the United States. But I followed the system.

The postseason is ultimately about Tuta's stable power and timing. Baseball is different from other sports, so even if you hit a lot of home runs during the regular season, things change in fall baseball. This season's MLB Home Run Derby leader (54), Atlanta's Matt Olson, was silent in four NLDS games. Ronald Acuna Jr., the hero of 40-70 (home runs and stolen bases), also did not hit a home run. The regular season 307 team cannon ended with an 11-3 deficit to the Phillies.

The Dodgers' concerns about an unstable starting lineup turned out to be a reality. Starting pitchers including veteran Clayton Kershaw, rookie Bobby Miller, and mid-season recruit Lance Lynn pitched only 4.2 innings together in the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This is the worst and smallest starting pitching in MLB postseason history. The number of runs allowed is a whopping 13 and the average ERA is 25.07.

The limitations of Dodgers baseball president Andrew Friedman, who had a brilliant mind and well-organized regular season roster, were revealed in the postseason. Manager Dave Roberts' plan to have the starters pitch at least three innings and then proceed with a bullpen game went completely wrong.

In the case of Baltimore, they lost all three games, but there is no criticism. This was because they lacked experience and the momentum of the Texas Rangers was very scary.

As we saw with Texas and Arizona, which were wild card teams and achieved five straight postseason wins for the first time in the club's history, success depends on the mound, home runs, timely hits, and timing. The sluggish performance of the three teams that lost even after winning more than 100 games was largely due to Atlanta = cannon, Dodgers = mound, and Baltimore = lack of experience. Rest is not poison. Rather, rest ahead of the postseason acts as a decisive force for the team.
