Two of Japan's key Premier League players, was Ma involved?

Injuries to Japanese national premier league players Kaoru Mitoma and Takehiro Tomiyasu have been serious throughout this season.

Brighton coach Robert De Zervi announced on the 28th (Korean time) that Mitoma will likely be out for the season due to injury. "I think we've lost Mitoma until the end of the season. It's a serious problem. The season will be over in about two or three months," he said. Mitoma has to postpone next season due to a serious back injury.

While leading Brighton's upward trend in the 2022-2023 season, Mitoma has grown into a recognized player in the Premier League (EPL). In just one season, his value improved significantly and quickly soared to 50 million euros (about 72.2 billion won).

However, in the 2023-2024 season, he only flashed at the beginning of the season, and his performance has been minimal since October of last year. Since the end of December, he has been suffering from injuries. In the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup, playing time was limited due to injury. He returned to Brighton and played again, but was ruled out for the season due to injury.

The situation for Tomiyasu, who is responsible for the Japanese national team along with Mitoma, is more serious. Due to the aftermath of a knee injury suffered last season, he began playing in earnest as a starter in September. He showed good performance when he got a chance to play, but was unable to help the team due to a calf injury since December. When he recovered from injury, he participated in the Asian Cup.

Tomiyasu's injury recurred, possibly due to his overexerted return to play in the Asian Cup. He has not played a single minute since returning from Qatar. Tomiyasu looked set to return within February, but it is unclear whether he will accompany the team on this week's trip to Sheffield United.

The British Daily Mail reported on the 28th, 'Olexandr Zinchenko and Tomyas have both been unable to play in recent weeks. A final decision has not been made on whether both players will be able to participate in the trip to Sheffield. 'Both players failed to return to training completely,' the report said.

Tomiyasu has played in 20 official games this season, but has played just over 1,000 minutes. Since he moved to Arsenal, he has never finished a season healthy. Still, Tomiyasu's situation is more serious given that Mitoma played over 2,000 minutes this season.
