‘Challenge for promotion’ Seongnam recruits veteran MF Han Seok-jong…

K League 2 Seongnam FC strengthened its midfield by recruiting veteran midfielder Han Seok-jong.

Seongnam officially announced on the 3rd that it had recruited midfielder Han Seok-jong (Xports News exclusive report on January 2, 2024).

Han Seok-jong, born in 1992, is a promising player who played a key role in winning the National Autumn College Football League Championship during his time at Soongsil University and won the Best Defense Award. He made his professional debut in Gangwon and joined Suwon after playing Incheon United. He played as a starting midfielder in Gangwon for three seasons. He appeared in a total of 84 games for Gangwon, which was in the second division at the time, scoring 6 goals and 5 assists.

Afterwards, he headed to Incheon and immediately played as a starting player. In the 2017 season, which was his first season since his transfer, he appeared in 32 league games and scored 3 goals and 1 assist, leading Incheon to remain in the first division. Han Seok-jong, who was very active in the 2018 season with 1 goal and 1 assist in 31 games, joined Sangju Sangmu for military service, and after being discharged from the military, he joined Suwon as a free agent in the second half of the 2020 season.

In the early days of joining Suwon, he still showed his skills. He showed decent form, scoring one goal in 10 league games. He also showed outstanding performance in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League, scoring an ultra-long goal against Yokohama Marinos in the J-League.

In the 2021 season, he played a key role as a central midfielder and contributed greatly to Suwon's ranking of 6th place by playing in 29 league games. However, he has suffered from injuries starting in the 2022 season. After his eye surgery, his skills deteriorated sharply. Although he appeared in 20 league games, he showed inaccurate passing and difficulty keeping up with the tempo of the game every time he played.

In the end, last season, he was completely pushed out of the competition for the starting role and only played in 6 league games. However, after improving his body under acting manager Yeom Gi-hoon, he started as a starter in the final game against Gangwon, but received a warning and was substituted in the 12th minute of the second half. Han Seok-jong's contract with Suwon expired on December 31 of last year, and as a free agent, he is heading to Seongnam, which is working hard to strengthen its power in order to be promoted to K League 1.

Seongnam is expecting Han Seok-jong to work with the players to further strengthen the team's defense and offense-defense transition.
